The government is proposing that from 2028 all new buy to let tenancies will require an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of C.

By by 2030 this will apply to all rental properties.

Landlords will face heavy fines for non-compliance with this.

Research by Introducer Today has found that lenders are already restricting mortgages on properties that do not meet these EPC requirements, a move branded as a stealth policy by several in the financial and property markets.
